As with other remodelling projects for Annabella, the key in design was to first solve what was functionally not working with the existent layout and also analyzing what the building could offer more. In this case, an extension at the ground floor of an apartment block was where the acces was previously made. Under the false impression of offering more space, it was interfering with the interior zoning and distribution of functions while also blocking the pedestrians’ way on the sidewalk. Having this in mind, a new solution to the entrance was given by using a former narrow storage. After demolishing a concrete pedestal to bring the narrow space to street level, we created a storefront that would be the acces to the supermarket on one side and a technical space on the other. The air units and the condenser that were previously at the back of the building, disturbing the neighbourghs with noise, were masked with a perforated metal wall and moved right near the store entrance. The interior was reconfigured with a very carefully divided storage to fit all needed requirements and three rooms with different focus points for the sale area.
